Our thoughts

Why we started Homescope.ai

We believe deeply in the challenges facing our climate, and we see the electrification of our homes as one part of the changes we need to make. We also have experiences as homeowners that even when upgrades to our home make sense, it’s just a difficult thing to understand, it’s time consuming, and it’s often overwhelming and lacking in trust.

Homescope.ai is useful whether you’re shopping for your first home and want to understand the current state of a lot of the major systems, informing your negotiations and budgeting, or if you own your home already, and want to understand the best choices for you to improve your home’s efficiency, make it more resilient, or simply to improve your quality of life living in it.

So, we started Homescope.ai as a solution to an unsexy problem. We are trying to take the friction out of understanding your home better, to enable you to make informed choices, reflecting your priorities.

We built Homescope.ai to be fast, simple, and honest.

Fast. We’re all busy and doing good but largely uninteresting things quickly allows us all more time for everything else in life that matters.

Simple. Simple, to us, means that it’s easy to use and easy to understand. Some of you know a lot about how these things work; many of you don’t. We’ll help educate you if that would help and equip you with the best information possible.

Honest. We built Homescope.ai to be accurate, unbiased, and transparent.  We want you to be able to understand how we analyzed the numbers, why we did it that way, and what we’d recommend based on it. We don’t recommend it because that company pays for ads with us. (And if at some point down the line a company pays us for ads, which we don’t think will happen, we’ll tell you then, equally transparently, and not allow that advertising to affect the recommendations.)

Finally, let’s address AI. We have it in our name – it’s quite literally in the proverbial DNA of the company. We are cautiously optimistic. Cautious, because a lot of applications of AI carry with them risk.  Optimistic, because we’re actively building something that we think will help people save money, emit less carbon, use less energy, and have a better quality of life.   Those are excellent things, and if AI can help us accomplish them, without an obvious negative counterpoint, then that’s wonderful.

We will be transparent as we grow about the usage of AI for us and will try genuinely to be cognizant of the climate impact of our company.

We believe we’re building something excellent. We hope you’ll try it out and let us know how it is.
